Description of Project:

Arthur Cole Painting Corporation proudly undertook the restoration of the iconic First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury, located at 15 Church Rd, Shrewsbury, MA. This project, which unfolded over two weeks, included comprehensive interior painting and restoration services, notably focusing on the church’s 18th-century architectural elements.

Our work started with a complete repaint of the church’s sanctuary. The restoration was facilitated by our proprietary staging, which allowed for efficient and safe access to elevated areas, thereby ensuring top-quality workmanship even on challenging heights. This repaint encompassed the repairs of the antique ceiling and walls, preserving the historic charm of this religious institution.

A crucial part of our project was the restoration of church pews. After meticulously cleaning and removing accumulated hand oils and candle wax, we implemented a three-product restoration method. We used Benjamin Moore’s Lenmar Quickstain Wiping Stain in Dark Mahogany for cap trim and edges, creating a rich, authentic look. Subsequently, Benjamin Moore BOC Polyurethane Satin was applied as a wood finish, providing long-lasting protection while enhancing the natural beauty of the wood. Lastly, Benjamin Moore Gloss White Coronado MULTAPPY Enamel was used on the pew seats and backs, providing a refreshing contrast to the stained wood.

Arthur Cole Painting Corporation is honored to have contributed to the preservation of the First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury, harmoniously blending its historic character with contemporary durability and elegance.
